Certificate in Community Arts Practice

Offered jointly with the Faculty of Fine Arts
The first certificate of its kind in Canada! Develop creative artistic skills, deepen your social analysis and learn to work collaboratively with community arts groups. Gain real world experience in placements with local cultural agencies and community organizations. Participate in international internships in Los Angeles, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama.

Possible outcomes
Prepare to work in community organizations, art agencies, environmental groups, artist-run spaces or international community development agencies with this BES degree and CAP certificate.

Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing

This certificate encompasses the art, science and technology involved in collecting and managing geographically-referenced information. Learn applied skills including computer cartography, statistical techniques, satellite image processing and remote sensing will strengthen and enhance your degree.

Possible outcomes
Prepare for employment in the private and/or public sectors with this certificate and BES degree.

Certificate in Refugee and Migration Studies

Explore refugee and migration issues in an interdisciplinary, environmental studies context. Work with internationally recognized professors whose focuses represent a multiplicity of academic disciplines. Enhance your studies by working with leading refugee organizations such as Amnesty International.

Possible outcomes
Develop your ability to work with non-governmental organizations, government, and business, as well as other positions with international contexts.

Certificate in Sustainable Energy

This is a NEW certificate program which will begin accepting applicants in September 2012
Explore and gain applied skills in the area of sustainable energy, specifically in energy efficiency, conservation and demand management and renewable energy sources. Discover sustainable energy technologies and practices as foundations of cost-effective strategies to prevent dangerous climate change. Acquire expertise in sustainable energy policy, economics, law, technology, management, communications and evaluation along with hands-on applied training.

Possible outcomes
Students completing this certificate program can pursue career paths with government agencies, local energy distribution companies, renewable energy developers and energy service companies.

Certificate in Urban Ecologies

Learn how the many conflicts between the natural and urban environments emerge, are represented, and can be addressed. Explore the many connections between the two kinds of environments and learn how thoughtful planning can help address contemporary problems.
