York values the contributions of master's students, and offers competitive funding to excellent full-time applicants. York Graduate Entrance Scholarships are offered to our top-ranked incoming students. Other York funding usually comes in the form of a teaching assistantship, research assistantship or graduate assistantship.
Teaching Assistantships provide students with teaching or grading experience working in one of York’s undergraduate departments.
Research Assistantships provide students with funding to engage in their research with faculty members.
Graduate Assistantships provide support while engaging graduate students in a variety of activities within the University.
FES supports our graduate students through scholarships, awards and bursaries available exclusively to FES graduate students. In addition to entrance awards, which you apply for before you begin your program, there are also current student awards that support you when you’re in your upper years. For complete details, please see the Financial support page in the Resources & services section of our website.
York University offers various financial supports for graduate students through bursaries, internal scholarships and funds. For details, please see the Faculty of Graduate Studies Financial Support page.
Students are strongly encouraged to apply for major external awards. York graduate students have a very high success rate in attracting these scholarships. For details please see the Major external graduate scholarships information on the Financial support page in the Resources & services section of our website.
NOTE: Any amounts received from major external competitions (i.e. OGS, SSHRC) are considered part of your guaranteed funding.
