Advising and supervision

As an incoming student, you will be matched with an Interim Advisor familiar with the PhD program and your substantive areas of research. Your Adviser will provide guidance with your initial Program Plan and help you develop your own Advisory Committee (which may or may not include your Interim Advisor).

Your Advisory Committee will work with you to revise and finalize your Program Plan, complete your comprehensive examinations and develop a dissertation proposal.

Once your dissertation proposal has been approved, the Graduate Program director will work with you to develop a Supervisory Committee – which may have the same or different members as your Advisory Committee – to oversee your dissertation creation and defense.

For more details about advising and supervision of PhD students, please see the PhD information in the Current students section of our site.
