It Starts with You
From climate change and water scarcity, to pollution and extinction, the biggest challenges facing our world revolve around the environment. For years, Canadians have endeavoured to make a difference, but the need for action is quickly outpacing our ability to effect positive change. Environmental degradation and exploitation are emerging as serious threats to biodiversity and human health and settlement, yet there is a growing shortage of environmental leaders equipped to create sustainable change.
Supporting the Faculty of Environmental Studies is supporting the development of the next generation of environmental leaders.

This is Impact
In 2016, York University launched Impact: The Campaign for York University to celebrate the University’s impact on the world and raise $500 million to accelerate our influence in the face of unprecedented global challenges. Our ambitious goal includes $15 million to advance the Faculty of Environmental Studies’ impact in three major areas:
Mobilizing New Ways of Thinking
Support for five new faculty chairs, post-doctoral fellows, visiting scholars and interdisciplinary research will strengthen the Faculty’s capacity to offer novel solutions to real-world environmental problems.
Preparing Engaged Global Citizens
Investments will help attract more talented students and provide them with the means and opportunities to explore their passion for changing the world.
Building Stronger Communities
Your gifts to this priority will advance our efforts to take students and research into the community and bring community partners to campus to enrich learning and research.
Our alumni play a vital role both in the Faculty and beyond, working as environmental educators, urban planners, lawyers, activists, research analysts, social advocates and more. As our Faculty’s most influential ambassadors, our alumni serve as mentors and advisors to our current students – the future generation of environmental change makers. See our alumni profiles for only a few examples.
