Howard Daugherty Graduate Award in Neotropical Conservation

Value: If awarded to Master’s: Up to $12,500*, if awarded to Doctoral: 1 award at up to $25,000 or two awards at up to $12,500*

Purpose

The Howard Daugherty Graduate Award in Neotropical Conservation is available to graduate students, at the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University, to support their research related to neotropical conservation that is undertaken in the vicinity of the Las Nubes Biological Reserve in Costa Rica and/or that contributes to meeting the goals of the Las Nubes Project. Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, residents of Ontario and must demonstrate financial need.

Eligibility

  • Master's or doctoral
    (a) Research related to Neotropical conservation that is undertaken in the vicinity of the Las Nubes Biological Reserve in Costa Rica;
    (b) Research that contributes to meeting the goals of the Las Nubes Project - see http://lasnubes.info.yorku.ca/.

Criteria

  • (a) Research related to Neotropical conservation that is undertaken in the vicinity of the Las Nubes Biological Reserve in Costa Rica, and/or that contributes to meeting the goals of the Las Nubes Project.
    (b) Academic accomplishments;
    (c) Financial need

Selection Process

  • Program nominations with complete documentation are due twice a year:
    (a) November 21
    (b) February 21
    Send complete package to the Student Resource Assistant

  • The Las Nubes Program will identify potential nominees and forward nomination packages to The Faculty of Graduate Studies Awards Committee to review nominees for eligibility.

Documentation

  • (a) Statement of research that outlines how the award will be used to support the fieldwork, budget, timeline of research activities and the research outcomes.
    (b) Approved Research Proposal (from MES 2>3 exam);
    (c) CV;
    (d) Transcripts (supplied by graduate program from Admissions file;
    (e) Confirmation of financial need;(Bursary Form)
